Biography
With two decades of litigation experience, Andrew Ranks is a Partner and Trial Attorney at Claggett, Sykes & Garza Trial Lawyers. As a member of the firm’s trial team, Andrew helped secure a $100 million jury verdict for a catastrophically injured client, the largest bodily injury verdict in Connecticut history. His perspective in the courtroom is also shaped by more than a decade spent in insurance defense earlier in his career.
His practice includes medical malpractice, product liability, and other serious and catastrophic injury matters. Best Lawyers has recognized Andrew for his work in Medical Malpractice Law – Plaintiffs, Personal Injury Litigation – Plaintiffs, and Product Liability Litigation – Plaintiffs.
The significance of the $100 million verdict extends beyond the courtroom. Following the result, Andrew joined fellow members of the trial team at Trial Lawyers University for an in-depth presentation examining the case and how the team approached the historic trial. He also presented at CSG’s $100 Million Day, an educational program centered on the case.
A graduate of the University of New Hampshire Franklin Pierce School of Law, Andrew earned his Juris Doctor cum laude.
Originally from Gardiner, Maine, and the son of two teachers, Andrew has raised his family in Connecticut for more than a decade. Outside the courtroom, he enjoys skiing with his wife and two daughters and spending time at home playing board games with his family.

Pro Bono and Volunteer Work
- Served as a volunteer attorney with the Connecticut Truancy Intervention Project, mentoring and advocating for students experiencing attendance difficulties and working with students, families, and schools to address barriers to consistent school attendance.
- Provides pro bono legal assistance in civil litigation involving gun violence, including Connecticut discovery and subpoena proceedings in cases arising from shootings in other jurisdictions.
- Volunteers in community outreach efforts in the Hartford area, canvassing neighborhoods to provide residents with information and resources concerning housing and immigration issues and connecting individuals with available services.
